ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A new round of “No Kings” protests is set to take place Saturday across western North Carolina, part of a nationwide day of demonstrations expected to draw large crowds in cities and small towns alike.

More than a dozen events are planned across the region, including gatherings in Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Waynesville. Organizers say the rallies are part of a broader national effort driven by a broad coalition of progressive, civil rights and labor organizations, most notably Indivisible Project, MoveOn and the grassroots group 50501, with thousands of events scheduled across the United States.

The demonstrations are aimed at protesting policies of President Donald Trump, particularly federal immigration enforcement actions and what organizers describe as growing authoritarianism and government overreach.

Organizers say the protests build on momentum from two previous “No Kings” events held in 2025, which they say drew significant participation and helped expand local civic engagement networks.

The latest demonstrations also come amid heightened tensions following a series of federal immigration enforcement actions earlier this year, including the fatal shootings of two civilians by federal agents. Those incidents have been cited by organizers as a driving force behind the renewed protests.

Nationwide, organizers say thousands of events are planned for Saturday, with participation expected to span all 50 states. While turnout figures remain uncertain, organizers describe the coordinated effort as one of the largest single days of protest activity in recent years.

The largest local event is expected from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pack Square Park in Asheville.

Other “NoKings” events in Western North Carolina include:

  • Black Mountain: Noon-1:30 p.m. Black Mountain Town Square
  • Brevard: 2-3:30 p.m. Broad Street Sidewalk – Courthouse to Varsity Street
  • Burnsville: 2-4 p.m. Town Square
  • Hendersonville: 2-3:30 p.m. Henderson County Courthouse
  • Marion: Noon-2 p.m. McDowell County Courthouse: 21 S Main St, Marion, NC 28752
  • Waynesville: 1-3 p.m. Haywood County Courthouse

Local officials have not announced any road closures related to the events, but participants are expected to gather in public spaces and along sidewalks throughout the region.
