ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The city of Asheville has announced service closures and Juneteenth celebrations for this Friday, June 19.
Juneteenth schedule for city services
City offices will close on Friday, June 19 in observance of the holiday, with regular office hours to resume on Monday, June 22.
Asheville Rides Transit buses will operate on a Sunday schedule, running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, June 19.
City parks and greenways will be open as regular from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., though community centers and administrative offices will be closed.
The public pool at the Dr. Wesley Grant St. Southside Community Center, however, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $3 per person.
Splasheville will be closed for Downtown After 5.
Riverside Cemetery offices will be closed, but the cemetery will be open to visitors from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Juneteenth city celebrations
There will be several Juneteenth festivities occurring in downtown Asheville on Friday, June 19. The city of Asheville has partnered with YMI Cultural Center, Just Folks of Asheville and Eagle Market Streets Development Corporation to bring several events to The Block, the historic Black business district in downtown Asheville.
The Block celebrations will include:
- Juneteenth Celebration in Triangle Park, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Ujamaa Marketplace on South Market Street, 1-8 p.m.
- Vibe and Glide Outdoor Skate Party on Eagle Street, 5-8 p.m.

The Asheville Downtown Association will also present the latest Downtown After 5 concert, Juneteenth Celebration, which will be held from 5-9 p.m., Friday, June 19, in Pack Square Park.
The free event, presented in partnership with the MLK Jr. Association of Asheville & Buncombe County, will feature headliner Kanika Moore with opener Reggie Headen and the Nite Time Noon.
