Four people 19 or younger arrested in Asheville armed robbery

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department arrested two young adults and two juveniles in connection with an assault and armed robbery that occurred near downtown Asheville last night.

Around 7:22 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, APD officers responded to a report of a person carrying a gun around the 50 block of Erskine Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim of an armed robbery and assault, and received a description of the suspected attackers and their vehicle.

APD officers located the vehicle and made contact with the four suspects. Though one suspected attempted to flee on foot, they were apprehended, while the others were taken into custody without incident.

All four suspects were younger than 21 years old. The two adults were Keleal Marshall Waters, 19, and Rashawn Mikia Alley, 19.

A search of the suspects’ vehicle led to the seizure of three firearms, “including one that had been reported stolen and equipped with a full auto switch,” APD said.

Charges

Waters was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond and charged with:

  • Felony robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Felony first degree burglary
  • Felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury
  • Felony possession of stolen firearm
  • Felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • Felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize/injure
  • Two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile
  • Two counts of carrying concealed gun

Alley was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond and charged with:

  • Felony aid and abet armed robbery
  • Two counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor

One of the juvenile suspects was charged with:

  • Felony aid and abet armed robbery
  • Felony first degree burglary
  • Felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize/injure
  • Misdemeanor resisting public officer

The other juvenile suspect was charged with:

  • Felony aid and abet armed robbery
  • Misdemeanor possession of handgun by minor

In cooperation with the Department of Juvenile Justice, both juveniles were charged as adults and transported to Secured Custody in Taylorsville, N.C.
