Buncombe County invites public to learn about elections before November 2026 vote

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — With the 2026 general election approaching, Buncombe County Election Services is inviting residents to learn more about how local elections work while also looking to fill a key position within the department.

The county will host several public information sessions in the coming weeks, including an opportunity for voters to meet Elections Director Corinne Duncan and learn more about the work of Election Services.

The “Meet Your Buncombe County Elections Director” session is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Buncombe County Election Services office, 35 Woodfin St. Duncan will give a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is open to the public, but registration is required.

Election Services is also offering a series of poll observer information sessions for anyone interested in learning about the role. The sessions will cover poll observer guidelines and rules and provide an opportunity to ask questions.

Upcoming poll observer sessions include:

  • 5:30 p.m. July 7
  • 2 p.m. July 30
  • 2 p.m. Aug. 18
  • 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1

All sessions will be held at the Election Services office on Woodfin Street. Registration is required.

Meanwhile, Buncombe County is hiring an Elections Candidate Coordinator, a position that plays a central role in administering local elections.

The coordinator serves as a resource for candidates and elected officials and is responsible for overseeing candidate filing, campaign finance reporting, petition processing and provisional voting. The position also provides training and guidance on campaign finance and filing requirements.

The hiring range is $29.51 to $34.96 per hour. Applicants must have an associate degree and related experience, while certification as a North Carolina Elections Administrator is preferred.

Applications for the position are due July 7.

The next general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
