ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – At 828newsNOW, our mission is to report timely, accurate news that matters to Asheville and Western North Carolina and to keep that news accessible to everyone. We live here, we work here, and we care about the issues that shape our community.

News does not only come from official statements, public meetings, or press conferences. It also comes from neighbors talking across fences, from small business owners and teachers, from artists, parents and voters who care about where Asheville and Western North Carolina are headed next. That’s why we’re launching a new Opinion section on 828newsNOW, a space where community voices can be heard, shared and challenged in thoughtful ways.

In this section, we’ll explore the questions facing our region, including housing and growth, education, local government, crime and the cost of living, through a wide range of lived experiences and perspectives. We believe a connected community means everyone has a chance to be heard.

We’ll feature viewpoints from across the spectrum, because meaningful dialogue only happens when there is room for differences. Submissions can come from anyone with something meaningful to say — residents, students, civic leaders, business owners. If Asheville and Western North Carolina are home, we want to hear from you.

Submissions should be between 400 to 500 words and focus on issues relevant to our region. Send your piece, along with a short bio and contact information, to news@828newsnow.com or complete the form below to submit your opinion. Our editorial team will work with contributors to ensure every piece meets our standards for clarity, fairness and respect.

As we launch this new chapter, our goal is to listen. Because when neighbors speak and communities listen, stronger conversations can take root.

Let’s keep Asheville connected. Make your voice heard.
